Course Objectives: Insights into the biochemical mechanisms of toxicity of common toxic substances, the factors affecting toxic responses, the diagnosis, prognosis and assessment of poisoning, the importance of the toxicological analysis, and the interpretation of results of the toxicological analysis.

Content of the Course: Expand our knowledge from Pharmacology to Toxicology. Toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics. Mechanisms of toxicity / Factors affecting toxicity. Objectives – Evaluation of Toxicological Analysis in Clinical Toxicology. Methods for determination of toxic substances in biological materials. Specific examples of toxic substances: acetaminophen, salicylates, organophosphate / carbamate pesticides, carbon monoxide and other poisonous gases, antipsychotic drugs, heavy metals, drugs of abuse. Laboratory practice. Discussion and presentation of case reports.

Form and Outcomes of Teaching: The teaching is interactive including lectures combined with laboratory training and discussion of case reports in order the student to understand the mechanisms of toxicity and the importance of comprehensive and rapid toxicological test for the diagnosis of poisoning and the proper therapeutic assessment of the poisoned patient. sticides, carbon monoxide and other poisonous gases, antipsychotic drugs, heavy metals, drugs of abuse. Laboratory practice. Discussion and presentation of case reports.
