  • Department of Haematology

    The Department of Haematology is Tertriary Care Reference Center of Northwest Greece for Haematology Diseases. We provide on a 24hour daily basis, specialized in-patient medical care for patients with various haematological diseases such as acute leukemias, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms and platelet disorders. We also conduct specialized diagnostic tests (bone marrow biopsy, flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular tests).  Mean hospitalization time is 4.5 days (2011 data).

  • Outpatient Clinics

    At our outpatient clinics and the day-care unit are followed-up, investigated and/or treated patients with a wide range of haematological disorders. Patients may be on regular follow up or referred by physicians for investigation, diagnosis and treatment. Outpatient clinics hours 08:00 - 14:00 daily besides Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays.

  • Research Haematology Lab

    The Research Haematology Laboratory provides services for conducting specialized molecular analysis such as gene mutation analysis related to haematological neoplasias, management of biological material (Biobanking) donated for research purposes. It also plays an important role in the training of undergraduate students of the Department of Biological Applications and Technology, of the University of Ioannina. The lab supports the translational research of the Department of Haematology.
  • Thalassemia Unit

    The Thalassemia Unit operates as an independent medical unit of the Department according to act (ΠΔ Y4α\108400 ΦΕΚ 1066/Β/2003). The Thalassemia Unit fully operates since November 2000 and provides health care services for adult patients (over 14 years old) suffering with Thalassemia or other haemoglobinopathies. Over 100 patients are on regular follow up while care is also offered for patients staying for short term periods in the district of Epirus, making a total of about 150 patients. Forty patients with the diagnosis of major beta (β) -thalassemia are transfused every 14-21 days. All patients are on regular follow up for the complications of the disease or treatment, in close collaboration with other medical departments.
