Subject of the course: The description of the regulatory networks that determine the phenotype from the genotype and their relationship with pathological processes.

Content of the course:

  • Membrane transport.
  • Intracellular compartments and transport of macromolecules.
  • Energy production in the mitochondria.
  • Cytoskeleton.
  • Cell communication.
  • Cell division.
  • Control of the cell cycle and cell death.
  • Tissues and cancer.

Form and teaching methods: The course is taught through lectures supplemented by tutorials. Students become familiar with the structure and function of (mostly) eukaryotic cells, to understand the successive levels of organization of living matter: from molecules to macromolecular complexes, organelles, cells, tissues, organs and organisms.

The exercises focus on novel technologies about the imaging of living cells in order to study their dynamic properties in real time.

Hours of training per student: 104
