In the framework of the cooperation agreement established by the University of Ioannina (UOI) and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and particularly of a close cooperation developed between the Medical Schools of the two Universities, Eleftheria Hatzimichael, MD, PhD Assistant Professor of Hematology of the University of Ioannina participated in the UIC's Global Blood & Marrow Transplant (GlobalBMT) Training Program from 5/8/2019 to 14/9/2019 along with 3 other Hematologists from Ukraine and Nigeria. The purpose of this yearly program is to educate international Hematologists in order to help the development of BMT programs that can offer autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation in their countries. The collaboration between the Hematology Clinic of the UOI and the Division of Hematology / Oncology of UIC includes not only the activation of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit in the University Hospital of Ioannina, but also the use of telemedicine for training Greek Hematology fellows in BMT and case presentations, the organization of CME events and collaboration on research projects.
