Object of the course: Medical diagnosis and treatment of pathological situations which refer to the osseous substrate and the soft tissues of the face, of the oral cavity, and of the jaws, but also to the contiguous organs, such as the salivary glands, etc., as well as their possible expansions to the head and neck.

  • Local Anesthesia.
  • Inflammatory Diseases of the Oral, Maxillofacial and Cervicofacial Area
  • Infections - Cysts of the Maxillofacial area.
  • Diseases of the Temporomandibular Joint.
  • Diseases of the Maxillary Antrum.
  • Facial Trauma-A general approach.
  • Fractures of Middle Face.
  • Facial Deformities.
  • Orthognathic Surgery.
  • Distraction Osteogenesis.
  • Facial Schises.
  • Implantology.
  • Benign Neoplasms of the Oral and Maxillofacial Area. Diagnosis-Treatment.
  • Malignant Neoplasms of the Oral and Maxillofacial Area. Diagnosis-Treatment.

Mode and outcomes of teaching: The students, after the end of the lessons visit under my guidance the patients which are hospitalized in the University Hospital of Ioannina (UHI), that is, patients who have already undergone, or shall undergo a surgical operation. There, the relevant discussion and examination takes place. The syllabus includes also lessons of practical training for the preparation of the participation in the Surgery. The students are divided into groups of three members, where one of the students participates in scheduled surgical operations for patients with Maxillofacial diseases under general anesthesia, in the UHI.

Optionally, the students, and during the semester teaching period of the Maxillofacial, are divided into groups of six members, and participate under my guidance, into On -calls of the UHI, where they are confronted with various Medical cases in the Emergency Rooms (E.R.), and especially with Maxillofacial incidents. At the same time, and with slow but decisive steps, we proceed into the cooperation with other University Departments and Divisions of our School for the organization of the Research Laboratory, having as object the Maxillofacial Oncology.
