Objectives of the course: The course offers the basic understanding and theoretical background required for the diagnosis and management of major ophthalmic conditions affecting children.

Content: Introduction in Paedo-Ophthalmology, refractve errors in childhood, amblyopia, paediatric strabismus, conjunctivitis, eyelid disorders, disorders of the lacrimal apparatus, paediatric catarract, paediatric glaucoma, uveitides in children, congenital maculopathies, retinopathy of prematurity, disorders of the optic nerve, disorders of the orbit affecting children.

Mode and outcomes of teaching: The course is taught in small groups of students in combination with clinical practice that takes place at the special Paedo-Ophthalmology unit, the ward and the operating theater. At the conclusion of the course, students will be able to recognise the clinical picture of major ophthalmic conditions affecting children and have an understanding of the appropriate management principles.
