Quality Assurance
By enforcing a quality policy, the Faculty of Medicine aims to implement a curriculum of high academic quality with continuous improvement and upgrading.
In collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) and the relevant departments of the Institution, the Faculty of Medicine has aligned its Quality Policy with the corresponding policies of the university. The quality assurance procedures are applied at a Faculty level with the required specification needed.

Quality Policy
All quality assurance procedures of the Faculty of Medicine are subject to inspection and review, which is conducted annually by the Internal Evaluation Group in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit of the Institution.

Faculty Evaluation

Internal Faculty Evaluation: During the process, the Internal Evaluation Group (OM.E.A.) presented the Internal Evaluation Report in December 2018.

External Faculty Evaluation: The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ioannina has been evaluated by a Foreign Independent Committee through the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (HQA) in November 2020, receiving “Excellent” across all 10 evaluation axes of the undergraduate program of studies.

Principle 10: Regular External Evaluation of Undergraduate ProgrammesAs stated in the Certification Decision, “the Undergraduate Program of Studies of the University of Ioannina fully complies with the principles of the Quality Standard for Undergraduate Programs of Study set by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) and the Quality Assurance Principles of the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015) for level 6 of the National and European Qualifications Framework” (certification duration from 29/5/2020 to 28/5/2024).

Quality Objectives
Based on a series of quality indicators, the quality objectives of the Faculty of Medicine include three main strategic targets.
These targets concern:
- The enhancement of quality education,
- the attainment of research excellence and innovation enhancement,
- the strengthening of the Faculty’s extroversion and outreach activities, as well as the mobility of instructors and students.
Evaluation of Educational Work
As part of the internal evaluation process, the educational work provided by the Faculty of Medicine is thoroughly evaluated. The evaluation of courses and instructors is conducted using electronic questionnaires. The Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP) coordinates the evaluation process following a specific protocol.
The aggregated results from the processing of the electronic questionnaires by the Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP) (completed by students every semester) regarding the evaluation of the Faculty’s undergraduate courses, are as follows:
Winter semester of the 2018-2019 academic year:
- Aggregated analysis of questionnaires for core-preclinical courses
- Aggregated analysis of questionnaires for clinical courses
- Teaching Evaluation Report: A report by the Internal Evaluation Team (OMEA) on the results of the winter semester 2018-2019, discussed both in the Faculty Assembly and in the Departmental Assemblies, with the participation of student representatives.
Spring semester of the 2018-2019 academic year:
- Aggregated analysis of questionnaires for core-preclinical courses
- Aggregated analysis of questionnaires for clinical courses
Winter semester of the 2019-2020 academic year:
- Aggregated analysis of questionnaires for core-preclinical courses
- Aggregated analysis of questionnaires for clinical courses
- Teaching Evaluation Report by OMEA
From the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year onwards, the evaluation process has changed, as a new central software system from MODIP was introduced. Aggregated analysis of questionnaires can be found here.
Academic year 2020-2021: The evaluation was conducted using the new central software system of MODIP. Aggregated analysis and recommendations from OMEA based on the proposals of the Faculty’s General Assembly.
The evaluation results are distributed separately for each undergraduate course to the Departmental Heads and Course Directors, followed by a discussion in the Departmental Assemblies – with the participation of student representatives – and a written report to the Head of the Faculty of Medicine, to OMEA and the Undergraduate Studies Committee, with the aim of continuously improving the program of studies.
Strategic Planning
With a focus on innovation, knowledge production through research, the dissemination of comprehensive knowledge through teaching as well as fostering students’ critical thinking, synthetic reasoning and specific skills, the Faculty of Medicine has set as its strategic goals for the coming period all aspects of education, research, clinical practice, and the Faculty’s connection with society.

Internal Evaluation Group (OMEA)
According to Hellenic Law 4009/2011, every Institution is responsible for ensuring and continuously improving the quality of its educational and research work, as well as for the effective functioning and performance of its services, in line with international practices, in particular those of the European Higher Education Area, and the principles and guidelines of the Authority for the Assurance and Quality Certification in Higher Education (ADIP).
For all the above, the Quality Assurance Unit is considered responsible in all Higher Education Institutions in Greece.
To facilitate these processes, each department designates an Internal Evaluation Group (OMEA), which:
- is responsible for conducting, in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit, the internal evaluation process of the Faculty of Medicine
- monitors the completion of the faculty members’ census and the students’ evaluation questionnaires for the courses and the faculty, while it also informs accordingly the bodies and members of the academic unit
- compiles the Internal Evaluation Reportof the Faculty of Medicine, which then transmits to the Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP) and through it to the Authority for the Assurance and Quality Certification in Higher Education (ADIP)
- cooperates with the Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP) and the Authority for the Assurance and Quality Certification in Higher Education (ADIP) for the organization and implementation of the External Evaluation and Certification of the Undergraduate Curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine
